OnPoint Community Credit Union Joins Local Groups to Promote New "Our Homes, Our Schools" Program
Homebuyers can help Portland schools earn financial grants
September 4, 2007
Portland, OR --- Community Credit Union announced that it will be one of the sponsors of the new "Our Homes, Our Schools" program to benefit Portland Public Schools.
When homebuyers close their home loans with OnPoint Mortgage and Fidelity National Title and take the Leadership Plenty class at Portland Housing Center (PHC), they can earn a $500 donation for a school of their choice in the Portland Public School District.
OnPoint Mortgage and Fidelity National Title will share the cost of each $500 grant.
"We look forward to launching this exciting new program, along with Portland Housing Center and Fidelity National Title,” said OnPoint’s president/CEO Rob Stuart.
"This program is designed to empower people with the information and resources to buy their own homes and strengthen neighborhood schools, " he continued.
"Since 1991, the Portland Housing Center has helped more than 5,000 Portland residents purchase their homes,” said its deputy director Felicia Tripp-Folsom.
"By completing our Leadership Plenty class, new homeowners are more likely to become involved citizens in their new neighborhoods.”
The Leadership Plenty class provides homeowners with information and skills to help them identify community assets, resolve conflicts, participate in the schools and manage volunteer groups.
PHC also provides several other home buyer-related programs such as Home Buying 101, homebuyer counseling and mentoring and financial assistance programs.
"This new program has the potential to drive thousands of dollars to public schools each year,” OnPoint’s Stuart noted.
OnPoint Community Credit Union makes annual contributions to Portland Housing Center. Last year, with a contribution of $12,500, OnPoint’s total donations for the past eight years reached $62,500.
"Our heritage comes from the public schools and we continue to support them through several projects and programs, including those offered by Portland Housing Center,” Stuart said.
OnPoint Community Credit Union is the largest credit union in Oregon, serving more than 183,000 members and with assets of $2.4 billion. Founded in 1932, OnPoint Community Credit Union’s field of membership includes everyone who lives or works in 10 designated Oregon counties (Benton, Clackamas, Columbia, Lane, Linn, Marion, Multnomah, Polk, Washington and Yamhill).
