OnPoint Community Credit Union Awards $75,000 to Ten Area Non-Profits as Part of 75th Anniversary

PORTLAND, Ore.—OnPoint Community Credit Union, Oregon's largest credit union has, awarded a total of $75,000 to 10 area non-profits to mark its 75th anniversary.

"These are 10 worthy organizations that we have historically supported through our Community Relations Committee," said Rob Stuart, OnPoint's president/CEO.

All of the organizations were selected because of their service to the communities in the geographic areas OnPoint serves in Oregon.

"Collectively, these non-profit groups support education, health care and the hungry as well as protecting the environment," Stuart said.

Organizations that received checks were:

  • Portland Schools Foundation—An independent, community-based organization that helps to ensure a first-rate education for Portland students.
  • SMART (Start Making a Reader Today)—Oregon's leading early literacy organization. Thousands of volunteers read one-on-one every week to with two K-3 children for a half-hour each.
  • The Library Foundation—Established in 1995, the Library Foundation raises and manages funds to assure a great library that serves all people in Multnomah County. Today, Multnomah County Library has the highest circulation of any library its size in the nation and is nationally known for its pioneering focus on children's literacy.
  • SOLV (Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism)—SOLV annually provides resources to more than 250 Oregon communities, focusing on cleanup, beautification and enhancement projects.
  • Guide Dogs for the Blind—Established in 1942, volunteers, donors and staff make it possible for sight-impaired individuals from the U.S. and Canada to become more mobile through trained guide dogs.
  • Dougy Center—This non-profit provides support in a safe place where children, teens and their families grieving a death can share their experiences as they move through their grief experience.
  • Food for Lane County—This organization finds creative solutions to hunger and its underlying causes. Food for Lane County distributes food through a network of social services agencies and programs.
  • Cancer Care Resources—This community-based service offers support to anyone in the Portland/Vancouver area who is dealing with cancer. The staff helps construct a plan to improve the quality of life during this challenging journey.
  • Head Start of Yamhill County—Head Start includes a partnership with parents and their children, a celebration of diversity, an atmosphere of support, respect and trust.
  • Bradley-Angle House—The mission of this organization is to offer survivors of domestic and sexual violence options for safety, self-empowerment, healing and hope.

OnPoint Community Credit Union was first called Portland Teachers Credit Union when 16 school teachers came together in 1932 because they shared a basic dream—access to safe savings and credit. Their determination, pioneering spirit and combined investment of $36 created what is now the state's largest credit union with 184,000 members and assets of $2.5 billion.
