Oregon & Southwest Washington Nonprofits Receive $3.8 Million from OnPoint Community Credit Union in 2024

Press Release

Rose Haven, The Giving Plate, Clark County Food Bank and ShelterCare are among the latest recipients in Oregon’s largest credit union’s record-breaking year of giving

PORTLAND, Ore. Dec. 18, 2024— OnPoint Community Credit Union donated a record-breaking $3.8 million to 331 nonprofits in Oregon and Southwest Washington in 2024. This year’s donations focused on diversity, equity and inclusion, financial education, food and shelter, environmental stewardship, and youth services.

OnPoint’s unprecedented year of giving includes a $100,000 donation to four regional nonprofits in observance of the holiday season. Rose Haven, The Giving Plate, Clark County Food Bank and ShelterCare will each use the gift from OnPoint to provide food and shelter relief across Oregon and Southwest Washington.

“Community is at the heart of everything we do at OnPoint,” said Rob Stuart, President and CEO of OnPoint Community Credit Union. “This year, we are proud to partner with these remarkable organizations that are not just meeting immediate needs but building hope and community for the people they serve.”

OnPoint provided every employee with $50 to donate to a food and shelter nonprofit of their choice as part of the credit union’s eighth annual employee giving campaign. This year’s campaign resulted in an additional $36,000 donation split between nonprofits across the region.

About OnPoint’s holiday donation recipients

Rose Haven

Rose Haven is Multnomah County’s only day shelter and community center open to women, children and marginalized genders experiencing homelessness and poverty. Rose Haven is a community where everyone has safety, stability, love, health and home. Serving 150 people a day, Rose Haven not only meets basic needs, including healthy meals, high-quality clothes, personal care products and clean showers – but offers long term solutions through their advocacy, wellness and empowerment programs.  Rose Haven will use OnPoint’s $15,000 donation to provide guests with meals, personal care supplies, bus tickets and financial assistance for rent, utilities and medical emergencies.

“As Oregon faces the highest rate of unsheltered children in the nation, Rose Haven has served record numbers of families in need. We literally can’t do this work without community support, and OnPoint has been a consistent partner with their Food and Shelter grants,” said Liz Starke, Development Director, Rose Haven. “Together we are healing people and healing Portland – because we love people and we love Portland!”

The Giving Plate

The Giving Plate is one of the largest food pantries in Central Oregon, currently serving over 1,900 families each month with a week’s worth of groceries. It has distributed over 8 million pounds of food to families across Central Oregon in need since it was founded in 2010. The Giving Plate will use OnPoint’s $15,000 donation to support the costs surrounding our largest program, our Grocery Program. These funds will support program expenses, like the purchase of food and supplies. Each month The Giving Plate spends around $40,000 on food alone for its hunger-relief programs to serve the over 6,000 individuals they are currently helping in their grocery program.

“At a time when our community’s need for food relief has grown by nearly 40%, this funding is vital in helping us continue to serve our neighbors in need,” said Ranae Staley, Executive Director, The Giving Plate. “OnPoint’s unwavering commitment to our mission inspires us with hope and empowers us to provide the compassionate support that families in Central Oregon rely on.”

ShelterCare

ShelterCare provides a range of housing programs and behavioral health services to people in Lane County who face homelessness. It helped 771 people in Lane County access stable and affordable housing in the last year.  ShelterCare will use OnPoint’s $15,000 donation to grow their infrastructure in order to more effectively serve the community.

“We are so grateful for our longtime partnership with OnPoint and its donation from employees, which gives us the opportunity to invest in flexible client assistance, equitable pay for staffing, and important building upkeep,” said Catrina Mathewson, Development Director, ShelterCare.

Clark County Food Bank

The Clark County Food Bank has worked to alleviate hunger and its root causes in Southwest Washington since 1985. It manages over 8 million pounds of food each year, which is equivalent to 6.7 million meals for individuals and families in need. The Clark County Food Bank partners with over 50 agencies to help feed the 130,000 people in Clark County who are facing food insecurity.

“Clark County Food Bank is humbled and grateful to learn about OnPoint Credit Union’s gift to help alleviate hunger and its root causes,” said Rachel Beck, Director of Development, Clark County Food Bank. “Each dollar donated equals four pounds of food, impacting thousands of individuals and families in Clark County to acquire nutritious food.”

Building stronger communities and advancing equity across the region

This year marks the fifth year in a row in which OnPoint has exceeded its annual giving record to address the region’s most critical needs. This year’s giving includes more than $600,000 in donations to nonprofits focused on providing access to financial education, including Youth Villages of Oregon and FinAbility.

The credit union also donated $700,000 to nonprofits focused on housing, community development and environmental stewardship through its Member Impact Fund award with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines.

Nonprofits advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion also received over $1.5 million from OnPoint in 2024, including Hacienda CDC, Urban League of Portland, and the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO).

Giving continues with OnPoint’s annual holiday social giving campaign

On December 3-13, OnPoint’s annual holiday social giving campaign was held on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. OnPoint followers nominated their favorite nonprofit to receive a donation from the credit union by following/liking OnPoint channels and sharing the nonprofit they support. Waggin’ Tails Search & Rescue was named the grand prize winner of $5,000, and five others received $2,500: Northwest Association for Blind Athletes, The Backwoods Foundation, Omega NW, Organizacion de Amigos, and Family Kitchen – Bend.

Participants voted through the credit union’s social media channels by tagging OnPoint and using the #OnPointGiving hashtag or commenting on one of its social media posts.
