Back to blog The start of the new school year is an exciting time for students. Meeting new teachers and reuniting with old friends comes with much anticipation and excitement. Although some students may face different hurdles, than other when it comes to having sufficient school supplies. Access to a backpack, pencils, notebook paper, erasers, and glue sticks is an essential part of back to school—yet for many families, purchasing new school supplies can be a financial strain.
This summer marks the 18th year OnPoint has supported the KGW School Supply Drive. As we assist our children’s return to school, we understand that every year can present unexpected challenges for students. An exacerbating struggle for half of the students in our community begins with the lack of the necessary school supplies students need to thrive. Through the help of our wonderful community and members in 2023, supplies were distributed in more than 75 individual school districts to more than 23,000 students.
Make your donation at an OnPoint branch.
From the 1st through August 31st, OnPoint will accept school supplies and monetary donations for the KGW School Supply Drive at any of our branches. A $25 donation sends a student back to school with the supplies they need; ready to learn. Want to maximize your donation? From August 12th – 17th, for every $1 donated at an OnPoint branch, we will contribute an additional $5. This means if you donate $25 during that week, our match will turn your donation into $150—providing supplies for up to six students.
Acceptable school supply contributions include backpacks, colored pencils, composition, books, crayons, erasers, glue sticks, loose-leaf notebook paper, markers, pencils and pens. Like previous years, all monetary and supply contributions will stay in the community where the donation was made.
We believe in investing in the futures of our local youth and are dedicated to giving back to our community. The KGW School Supply Drive has collected enough supplies for more than 100,000 students over the years. With your help, we hope this year will make an even greater impact!
Special OnPoint School Supply Collection Event:
On Friday, August 23rd, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, OnPoint will make your donation even sweeter by providing Shave Ice outside the branch. Bring your school supplies or monetary donations to the OnPoint Lloyd Center Branch and snag a sweet snack during our special collection event.
