Spotlight Interview with Britney Small

The OnPoint spotlight is an ongoing blog series that highlights our employees and takes a closer look at the drive and personality of individuals on the OnPoint team. It is one way we show our appreciation for their hard work and achievements while helping our community get to know the people who make things happen here at OnPoint.

This week’s employee spotlight is Britney Small, Member Service Specialist – Tech Support at our Montgomery Park headquarters. In 2018, Britney joined OnPoint as a Member Service Specialist, and within her first year, was promoted to the tech support team. Britney consistently displays an enthusiastic dedication to supporting members in her role and we’re excited to see how she continues to grow with us!

Here is what she had to share about her life and experiences at OnPoint:

Tell us a little about yourself.

In my free time, I am with my husband and two kids. On the weekends, we are usually at a basketball game or chess tournament for our 10-year old son or at a dance competition for our eight-year-old daughter. When we are not running around supporting their extracurricular activities, we are home watching Blazer games or out exploring Oregon together—we especially enjoy hiking and camping. I also stay active by playing soccer, basketball, dodgeball, and volleyball throughout the year—recreational sports have been a great way to help maintain a healthy work/life balance.

What were you doing before joining OnPoint?

Before joining OnPoint, I was working as a baker at St. Honoré bakery. Prior to working at the bakery, I was baking part-time and teaching preschool part-time while my kids were in school.

If you could live to see one future event, what would it be?

It would be to see the Portland Trail Blazers win the NBA Finals. We had season tickets for a few years and still try to go to as many games as possible. We love our Blazers!

Have you ever won anything? What was it?

I used to play volleyball and dodgeball in a rec league and after (several) seasons, we finally won the championship!

Which sports teams do you root for?

I love watching basketball and baseball. I grew up in the Bay Area and have been a San Francisco Giants fan as long as I can remember. For basketball, I could never get behind the Warriors, but became a big Blazers fan after my first visit to Portland. It’s great that my family are all big fans of the Blazers and the Giants. There are very few games we miss and when we do, we follow along on the radio or record the game at home.

What is your most memorable vacation?

My most memorable vacation was when my husband and I surprised our kids with a trip to Disneyland a week before Christmas. We wanted to surprise our kids, so we told them that we were heading to grandma’s house and only shared the news shortly before pulling into the Disneyland parking lot.

Do you volunteer anywhere?

I volunteer at the elementary school that both of my kids attend. I love volunteering in their classrooms whenever I can. I’m so grateful to have such a great community in our neighborhood.

What’s something that you would like to share about your experiences here?

Shortly after I joined the Member Services team, I expressed an interest in working as a specialist with our tech team. The idea of making a switch not too long after my hire date was intimidating, but when I expressed my interest, my manager was encouraging and quick to answer any questions I had. That level of support meant a lot to me.
