The OnPoint Spotlight is an ongoing blog series that highlights our employees, celebrating the drive and personality of individuals on our team. It’s one way we show appreciation for their hard work and achievements while helping our community get to know the people who make things happen here at OnPoint.
This week’s employee spotlight is on Nathan Taylor, Teller Operations Supervisor. As an avid reader, I can devour over 100 books annually. I am a film buff with a deep love for Oscars trivia—ask me who won Best Actress in any given year, and I’ll know the answer. My passion for music runs deep, too; I have sung with choirs my whole life and currently sing with the Eugene Gay Men’s Chorus, where I relish the camaraderie and the joy of performing.
Here’s what Nathan had to share about his life and time at OnPoint:
What were you doing before joining OnPoint or taking on your current role?
Before joining OnPoint, I graduated from the University of Oregon with a BA in English, intending to pursue a career in the publishing sector. While in school, I worked several jobs concurrently, including as an editorial assistant for Wayzgoose Press. Shortly after graduating, I was contracted by UC Berkeley to write and edit a textbook for AP English students.
I started my career with OnPoint as a Teller at the Orenco Station Branch before being promoted to MSR. I then transferred to ADL, working out of the Coburg Road Branch, where I started as a Loan Processor before being promoted to Loan Closer. When OnPoint expanded in 2021, I found a position that would more firmly tie me to the Eugene area, taking the Teller Coordinator position at the soon-to-open Santa Clara Branch. I was then promoted to Teller Operations Supervisor in 2022 and have been in that role ever since.
Over the past nearly seven years at OnPoint, I have been incredibly fortunate to work alongside some truly remarkable individuals. Whether in member-facing teams or back-office roles, our genuine camaraderie and unwavering support have been a constant source of inspiration. The bonds formed with such talented and dedicated colleagues have made this journey one I’ll always cherish.
What was your childhood nickname?
I had many nicknames as a child, including but not limited to Nate, Nate Nate, Nate the Great, Nate the Grape, NayNay, NayTay, Nathaniel (not my actual name), LaMar (my middle name), and more. I even had a nickname when I was a teller: Lammy!
If you have pets, what kinds and what are their names?
I have a cat, Opie, and a dog, Harper. They’re both adorable and boy, do they know it.
What is your favorite book?
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
What was the best concert you’ve ever attended?
Lorde at the Moda Center when she toured for her album, Melodrama.
How do you maintain work/life balance?
Maintaining a healthy work/life balance is essential, especially since I’m an introvert. Working in customer service can be draining, so I consciously leave work at work and decompress after each day. Whether it’s spending time with friends, cuddling my pets, or getting lost in a good book, these moments help me recharge so that I can bring my best self to work the next day.
