The OnPoint Spotlight is an ongoing blog series that highlights our employees, celebrating the drive and personality of individuals on our team. It’s one way we show our appreciation for their hard work and achievements while helping our community get to know the people who make things happen here at OnPoint. This week’s employee spotlight is on Kyla Dunn, a Branch Service Specialist at our Keizer Branch. Kyla is a devoted mother who takes pride in creating the absolute best life for her daughter. She enjoys spontaneous adventures and thrives anywhere outdoors.
Here’s what Kyla had to share about her life and time at OnPoint:
What were you doing before joining OnPoint or taking on your current role?
Before joining OnPoint, I worked as a Customer Service Supervisor in a retail department store for about four years. I started at OnPoint as a Teller after a friend referred me. I saw how much she truly enjoyed her job, and I couldn’t have been more grateful for taking the risk of leaving my comfort zone. The dynamic and atmosphere here is truly unique. I feel supported, motivated, and driven every day by my peers. I love what OnPoint stands for and am thrilled to be a part of it! I enjoy engaging with our members, creating bonds, and chatting with my regulars. I can’t
wait to see what the near future holds for me as I see OnPoint as my forever career and look forward to my journey!
Who inspires you?
My daughter inspires me the most as she reminds me to live in every moment and be present in each moment. To slow down when everyday life gets too busy. You can find reasons to smile and be grateful even on bad days. Being able to raise her and be her mother has healed a part of myself I did not know needed to be healed. I’ve watched her grow into her own person as the years go by and how highly kind-hearted, brave, and courageous she is. Giving her the whole experience of what a childhood should be like is why I wake up every day and work so hard to give her the life she deserves.
What are your favorite hobbies or activities?
My favorite activities include anything and everything outdoors! I enjoy grueling hikes that lead to beautiful views, spontaneous adventures and road trips, river floating, and camping. Last summer, after impulsively buying a kayak, I discovered a new passion for it. I thoroughly enjoy escaping city life and being surrounded by nature. I’d say I am the person who is always somewhere and nowhere in my free time.
Which sports teams do you root for?
My daughter and I share a passion for basketball, so we’ve made it our own tradition over the years to go to a few Blazer games together every basketball season.
What’s the one thing you’ve waited in line the longest for?
My It definitely would have to be the ride at Disneyland!
Who was your most influential school teacher? Why?
My third-grade teacher at Englewood Elementary was my most influential teacher because of her kind-hearted spirit. I remember feeling like every day of Third grade was the best day ever because she showed up to class with a radiating glow of happiness every day. She used to tell us stories about her garden and how passionate she was about it. As a teacher appreciation gift, I made her a cement stepping stone for her garden, which she kept on a shelf in class all year. During my 4th grade year, I moved away to Terrebonne, Oregon, and years went by before I
moved back to Keizer in my 7th grade year. All these years had passed, and she stepped into the Keizer branch one day to do her banking! While I remembered her, I was afraid she might not remember me. After all, she is a teacher who has taught many kids. What would be the chances that she remembers me?! I was too shy to ask as she walked up to my teller window, so I completed her transaction as usual. Nearing the end of her transaction, she asked me if I had gone to Englewood. She remembered me! We caught up and talked about the years that have passed and how she is now retired. She even remembered that I was the kid who made her a stepping stone for her garden, and she still has it in her garden. It shows you never know who might pop into your local
branch and make your day.
