OnPoint is excited to celebrate International Credit Union Day on October 19, 2017. Since 1948, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October. The day allows all of us the opportunity to reflect upon the credit union history and promote awareness of and support for the credit union difference.
For OnPoint, and many other financial cooperatives, this day is a time to share and celebrate the ways credit unions improve the lives of their members and local communities. Credit unions are recognized as a force of positive economic and social change and have provided significant value in both developed and emerging nations worldwide. Credit unions are also an integral part of the communities they serve, opening the doors to people of all economic levels, helping members build credit and supporting local programs integral to the community.
OnPoint will be celebrating during the month of October and we encourage our members to participate in our Credit Union for Kids coin drive. Through October 31, canisters will be placed at teller windows at all OnPoint branches to collect funds in support of Credit Union for Kids.
In addition to the coin drive, OnPoint will be making a $5,000 donation to OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, our local Children’s Miracle Network hospital, on behalf of our members.
OnPoint embodies the credit union ideal of “people helping people” throughout the year. On October 19, a team of OnPoint employees will volunteer for Store-to-Door, filling grocery orders for seniors and home-bound neighbors in Portland. We will also have cookies at all of our branches for our members to enjoy.
If you’d like to get involved, during October 16-21, 2017, share with us on social media how OnPoint has helped you reach your financial goals. One winner will be randomly selected daily.
- Facebook: Comment on one of our ICU posts during October 16-21
- Twitter: Send a Tweet that tags @OnPointCU, #ICUDAY, and answers “How has OnPoint helped you reach your financial goals?”
- Instagram: Post a photo or video that tags @OnPointCU and #ICUDAY and answers How has OnPoint helped you reach your financial goals?”
OnPoint continues the traditions and philosophies of credit unions by focusing on efforts that improve our local communities. OnPoint’s commitment to serving the community stretches beyond our business walls and includes ongoing corporate partnerships, charitable giving directed by an employee-managed committee, and employee volunteerism.
We look forward to celebrating International Credit Union Day with you this year!
