The OnPoint spotlight is an ongoing blog series that highlights our employees and takes a closer look at the drive and personality of individuals on the OnPoint team. It is one way we show our appreciation for their hard work and achievements while helping our community get to know the people who make things happen here at OnPoint.
This week’s employee spotlight is Ahquoya Brooks, who joined us last year and serves as the Business Member Specialist at our Lloyd Center Branch. She’s been a great asset to our team and we’re looking forward to her serving our members at our new Lloyd Center Branch location opening on March 9!
Here is what she had to share about her life and experiences at OnPoint:
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a rare Portland native. I have four children and, depending on the day, between 2-6 dogs! Basketball is my favorite sport—I am an NCAA sports enthusiast and enjoy watching games with my partner.
What were you doing before joining OnPoint?
Before joining OnPoint in February of last year, I worked for other financial institutions. I have had many great experiences, which I feel prepared me for the position I’m in today.
As a Portland native, I get to see many familiar faces at OnPoint. I especially enjoy seeing all of the teachers/staff/faculty members who inspired me throughout my life. It’s a great feeling to come to work and see not only colleagues who I enjoy working with, but also members who have positively influenced my life in so many ways. There’s never a dull moment.
What is something about you that might surprise people?
I collect Barbie dolls! I have the original Barbie and the Rockers, Ken doll and Skipper all still in their boxes.
Have you ever won anything?
I am a previous Rose Festival Princess of Jefferson High School—I’ll keep the year to myself.
Do you have a favorite board game?
My favorite board game is Aggravation! We used to play it all the time growing up, and now my kids love to play with my parents and me.
What’s the coolest experience you’ve ever had?
I had the pleasure of meeting President Barack Obama and shaking his hand at the Convention Center in 2007 when he visited Portland before becoming President. Yet my biggest regret was that I didn’t capture the moment! I purchased a new camera for the event and left it in my coat pocket—which was safely stored in the coatroom.
What’s the one piece of advice you would give others about life?
Never be so arrogant that you feel like you can’t learn—be open-minded. Personally, I love learning new things no matter the topic.
Would you like to learn more about OnPoint? You can meet Ahquoya and the rest of our Lloyd Center Branch team during our upcoming grand opening event on April 4, 2020, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
