2019 marks the 12th year OnPoint has been supporting the KGW School Supply Drive! The start of the school year is a time of new beginnings. Students return to the classroom, meet their new teachers and reunite with friends. New backpacks, pencils, notebook paper, erasers and glue sticks are the long-standing hallmarks of “back to school.” It is a time filled with anticipation and excitement, yet for many families, purchasing new school supplies can be a financial strain.
In fact, one out of two children begin the school year without the school supplies they need. Along with our Supply Drive partners, OnPoint believes every student should have the supplies they need to succeed and thrive. Here’s how we all can help.
The KGW School Supply Drive supports kids and families who struggle to afford basic school supplies. Financial contributions and donated school supplies will go directly to help teachers and students in Oregon and Southwest Washington. All donations will stay in the community in which the donation was made.
Now through Thursday, August 29, OnPoint members and community members alike may make monetary or school supply donations at any OnPoint branch. Any donation amount is helpful. In fact, a $25 donation provides a student with the school supplies they need for the entire year.
Want to really maximize your donation? From August 5 to August 10, for every $1 donated at an OnPoint branch, we will match an additional $5. This means if you donate $25 during that week, our match will turn your donation into providing supplies for six students for the full year!
Join us at upcoming collection events:
- Friday, August 2, at Oaks Amusement Park from 3 to 5 PM. We’ll be collecting donations along with handing out OnPoint giveaways.
- Friday, August 9, at OnPoint Lloyd Center Branch from 11 AM to 1 PM. We’ll have light refreshments in addition to collecting donations.
In 2018, the School Supply Drive – with KGW, Schoolhouse Supplies, OnPoint, Great Clips and Safeway – collected enough supplies for more than 19,000 students and supported over 79 school districts. With your help, we hope this year will make an even greater impact.
