The OnPoint Spotlight is an ongoing blog series that highlights our employees, celebrating the drive and personality of individuals on our team. It’s one way we show our appreciation for their hard work and achievements while helping our community get to know the people who make things happen here at OnPoint.
This week’s employee spotlight is on Mackenzie Cutburth, a Teller at the North Lombard Branch. She is a mother of two who loves to stay busy and tries to learn something new daily. On the side, she takes classes to learn SQL and programming and occasionally streams part-time on Twitch.
Here’s what Mackenzie had to share about her life and time at OnPoint:
What were you doing before joining OnPoint or taking on your current role?
Before OnPoint, I was an Operations Manager for an Authorized T-Mobile Retailer. I worked there for over five years on the sales side before I migrated to the back office side. Although I am still new to OnPoint, I am so excited about all the different career path opportunities that this company has for me—my goal is to become a Branch Manager. My peers and managers have been very helpful in this major transition for me, and I am very blessed to have such a knowledgeable team to work with.
What is your “hidden” talent?
I am very good at drag-racing tree lights. I can almost ace my reaction time every time. When I was growing up, my dad and I would compete on a virtual NHRA reaction tree time app and play racing games on our PlayStation. This has helped me growing up in many situations besides racing—reaction time matters!
What’s your favorite guilty pleasure?
I am obsessed with disc golf. I love going to play, rain or shine, with my family. It’s so bad that I spend an absurd amount of time on two things—watching Facebook reels of professional and non-professional disc golfers throwing at the course and looking at discs for sale online even if I don’t spend any money.
Which sports teams do you root for?
It’s not a traditional sports team, but I always root for Ellam Family Racing in the NHRA. My dad races all over the country, and I am very proud to back our family team. Our family has been racing for many years, from quad sand drags to asphalt racing. My dad is my superhero! He is dedicated to not only his racing but also getting my four-year-old and 12-year-old out there on the track and teaching them the mechanics behind it all.
Have you ever run a marathon or climbed a mountain?
Our family participates in the Bubble Run at Portland International Raceway every year. It’s a great way to get out together and make exercising fun. Sometimes, we cut through the trails backward to watch the kids go through the bubbles an extra few times. The Bubble Run is only a 5k, but by the time we are done, I swear it’s almost a marathon!
What’s the one piece of advice you would give others about life?
No matter what it is, if it doesn’t matter in five years, never spend more than five minutes dwelling on it. I live the ARM statement: Acknowledge. Respond. Move forward. We will always run into problems, whether controllable or not, but we should never overspend our emotions on something that will not make a lifelong impact. Take those five minutes to acknowledge and analyze the situation. Face all problems head-on and always end your resolution with a solution. Ask yourself, “What will I do differently next time?” It could be a different question. Your future is only in your hands, and it’s all about how you hold your mindset to get there.
