The OnPoint Spotlight is an ongoing blog series that highlights our employees, celebrating the drive and personality of individuals on our team. It’s one way we show our appreciation for their hard work and achievements while helping our community get to know the people who make things happen here at OnPoint.
This week’s employee spotlight is on Missy Hovland whose role at OnPoint allows her an opportunity to work with various departments within the organization. Missy is an Instructional Designer who develops eLearning for our staff, creates materials for in-person training, and puts together additional resources to help our OnPoint team get the information they need to be successful in their roles.
Here’s what Missy had to share about her life and time at OnPoint:
What were you doing before joining OnPoint or taking on your current role?
I was hired as a contractor during our system update and was hired full-time in June. Before joining OnPoint, I a trainer with local school districts. I would work with middle and high school health teachers on implementing their sexual health curricula. This would include classroom teaching, facilitating training, developing eLearning, and creating classroom and training materials.
I feel beyond lucky to work with the amazing Learning & Development Team! Everyone is always so happy to help and answer any questions I have. The entire team cares deeply about OnPoint and looks for new ways to help support everyone. It’s truly a joy to have such terrific coworkers.
Who inspires you?
Megan, my best friend, inspires me. We have been best friends since we were toddlers, and our moms are also best friends. Being Aunt Missy to her kids is so important to me, and I’m incredibly grateful for our lifelong friendship.
If you have pets, what kinds and what are their names?
I have a tortoise named Turtle and a cat named Statler (after one of the grumpy old men from The Muppets).
Do you have a favorite board or card game?
I will never turn down a game of Clue! Especially if I get to be Colonel Mustard.
What is the most incredible view you’ve ever seen?
My husband Asher and I went to Norway in the summer of 2022 and spent some time along the Lysefjord. We hiked to Pulpit Rock—a super high cliff looking out over the fjord. It was a butt-kicker but very much worth the view!
How do you maintain a work/life balance?
Asher and I have recently gotten really into roller skating. Our wedding was at Oaks Amusement Park a few years ago, so we love returning to the roller rink there. It’s much easier when I’m not in my wedding dress!
