Investing in Our Schools with the OnPoint Prize Community Builder Award

Since 2010 the OnPoint Prize for Excellence in Education has honored innovative teachers in our community. However, we also know collaboration is at the heart of dynamic educational experiences. That’s why last year we introduced a new component to the campaign – the Community Builder award!

To encourage this collaborative and dynamic educational experience, this year the award has been increased and four local schools will be named Community Builder recipients, each receiving a cash prize of $1,000 to complete a project of their choice.

The goal of the Community Builder award is to provide funding for schools to complete a project that is enriching to the school, students and faculty. The award is meant to be open-ended, allowing schools to submit a project proposal that best meets the needs of the school community. Last year, Alder Creek Middle School was one of our four recipients.

Alder Creek Middle School used the Community Builder award to support the Kingsmen Thunder drumline students in competing at the NW Performing Arts Association, a tonal component, performed with mallet instruments and other percussion. The percussionists had been preparing for the competition all year and were excited to perform and deserved the opportunity to experience playing a musical instrument in a competitive setting. Alder Creek used the Community Builder funds to procure uniforms needed by the middle school members to match the rest of the drumline.
