The OnPoint spotlight is an ongoing blog series that highlights our employees and takes a closer look at the drive and personality of individuals on the OnPoint team. It is one way we show our appreciation for their hard work and achievements while helping our community get to know the people who make things happen here at OnPoint.

This week, we are excited to spotlight Laurissa Bybee, Branch Manager of our new South Hillsboro Branch! Laurissa joined OnPoint in 2011 and is excited to become a Branch Manager with our new Fred Meyer expansion.

Here is what Laurissa had to share about her life and experiences at OnPoint:

Tell us a little about yourself.

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, and I love everything about it! When I am not working I love to spend time with my husband, go camping, enjoy the outdoors, and go to concerts and travel. I also enjoy being at home with my cat, Jack. He is the sweetest, feistiest and best little (but actually quite large) gray kitty.

What were you doing before joining OnPoint or taking on your current role?

Before joining OnPoint, I worked for a commercial bank for three years as a Teller. My first role with OnPoint was as a Floating Teller at the Orenco Branch. I then held several positions, including Member Service Representative, Member Relationship Officer, Small Business Specialist, Branch Operations Supervisor and Assistant Manager, before becoming Branch Manager for our new Fred Meyer expansion. After eight years away, I am excited to reconnect with my community in Hillsboro and serve our members.

What is something about you that might surprise people?

My husband and I secretly got engaged and eloped one month after our engagement! Very few people knew of our engagement or the fact that we were actually married. We ended up throwing a surprise wedding for friends and family over a year later. Our friends and family were shocked with the news that the “engagement party” they were attending was really a celebration of our marriage that happened 15 months earlier. We ended up posting a picture on social media to make our announcement.

Do you have a favorite board or card game?

Currently, my favorite game is Cribbage! I love all sorts of games, and I am up to try anything, but the one I fall back on the most would be Skipbo or any dice game. My husband and I keep a running tally of who has the most wins. Unfortunately, he has more documented wins than I do.

Have you (or would you) ever skydive?

I have twice! My first jump was for my 21st birthday, just as the sun was setting. The adrenaline was intense, the view was spectacular and the air was crisp! My second jump was in Dubai over the manmade islands. This jump, much like the first, gave incredible views of the city and the coastline.

What do you enjoy most about working at OnPoint?

The culture at OnPoint is unlike anywhere else. Everything about it feels different, in a good way. From the genuine relationships and friendships created with your coworkers through upper management, there is a feeling of acceptance and support. At this company, I have had the pleasure of working with some of the best mentors—excellent people who have helped me grow my professional career. Plus, it’s because of OnPoint that I met my husband and how I have found some of my best friends!
