The OnPoint spotlight is an ongoing blog series that highlights our employees and takes a closer look at the drive and personality of individuals on the OnPoint team. It is one way we show our appreciation for their hard work and achievements while helping our community get to know the people who make things happen here at OnPoint.
This week, we are recognizing our six recent Accelerated Platform Training (APT) program graduates: Alyssa York, Eric Steffen, Jennifer Schlottmann, Jeremy Dehut, Samara Bonsey, and Lacee Swanson. The APT program provides an excellent opportunity for employees to focus on gaining the new skills they require to advance in their careers here at OnPoint.
This employee spotlight is on Jennifer Schlottmann. Jennifer started with OnPoint in June 2018 as a Teller at our Sellwood Branch and now works at our Orenco Station Branch as a Member Service Representative. Jennifer was able to advance to her new role after completing OnPoint’s APT program.
Here’s what she had to share about her life and experiences with us here at OnPoint:
Tell us a little about yourself.
I was born and raised in the Hillsboro-Beaverton area and managed to attend five different elementary schools! I have a degree in Child and Family Studies specializing in Child Welfare from Portland State University.
What is your history with OnPoint?
My first position with OnPoint was as a Teller at our Sellwood Branch and I completed the APT program at our Kruse Meadows Branch to become a Member Service Representative. I want to give a shout out to the Kruse Meadows staff and management who allowed me to flourish under their knowledge and support. Now I am rocking one of the busiest branches—Orenco.
How are you assisting our members during the COVID-19 pandemic?
During this pandemic, I am keeping a positive attitude and being patient. I am reassuring members we are here for their needs, educating them on Digital Banking and what services can be done over the phone. I have also been practicing social distancing while working at the branch and making sure they feel safe.
What were you doing before joining OnPoint or taking on your current role?
I was the General Manager at Jamba Juice. After 12 years, I was trying to figure out what my next career path would be. At the time, family members with memberships at OnPoint raved about their member service and that they heard about OnPoint promoting from within. I thought it would be a good, stable opportunity to grow and try out a new career, and I fell in love!
What was your experience with the Accelerated Platform Training (APT) program?
My favorite part was being able to work with a variety of individuals to soak in their knowledge so that I could form my own personalized way of excelling in my new role! The program is structured to allow us to ease into some of the harder components of our position. From the moment I heard about the program, it became my goal in the company to join. I am so grateful to have experienced this so early in my career with OnPoint.
If you could be an animal, which would you be?
A penguin. The waddle is adorable! As a kid, my mom would always call me a mermaid while I was swimming but I always corrected her and say that I was a penguin! It was always my favorite exhibit at the zoo.
Do you have any pets?
My new baby Marley, an eight-month-old black cat with a heart on his nose.
What is your favorite board or card game?
Catch Phrase—an electronic game that challenges teams to guess words or phrases before the timer runs out.
Have you (or would you) ever skydive?
Yes! I did it for my golden birthday when I was 22. It was the best experience of my life.
What’s the one piece of advice you would give others about life?
Just go for it. I was with a company for 12 years and never thought I could restart, but here I am!
